Project Last

Project Last, a program offered by the Children's Bureau, offers specialized Grief and Trauma Group and Individual Counseling to school aged children affected by trauma, loss, or disaster.
Project Last has been shown to be very effective in reducing symptoms in children who are in crisis due to trauma and community violence. The program is available to Orleans and Jefferson Parish children ages infant to 17 and their families who are survivors of traumatic events, witnesses to acts of extreme violence, or victims of violence. Free Health Insurance for Children

If your child is younger than 19 and does not have health insurance, he or she could qualify to get free healthcare benefits - medical, vision, dental - through LaCHIP (Louisiana Child Health Insurance Program).

Louisiana Department of Education Child and Adult Care Food Program

Greater New Orleans Youth Orchestra (GNOYO)

GNOYO offers orchestral music opportunities through weekly rehearsals, one-on-one instruction with professional musicians and regularly scheduled concerts throughout the community.
GNOYO accepts all eligible students, regardless of financial means by providing scholarships to those in need of assistance. All musicians with at least 1 year of experience are invited to audition for one of the orchestra’s five ensembles, which accommodate various levels of playing ability.

Afterschool Program for Teens

YOUTHanasia Foundation, Inc. is currently accepting applications for its after school program for students grades eight through 12.
The program provides homework assistance and tutoring, as well as state-approved curricula designed to supplement the lessons students are learning in the classroom. The purpose of the program, which is being funded by the Louisiana Department of Education, is to prepare students for LEAP testing, as well as improve the overall LEAP scores within the state. Students participating in the after school program can also sign up for one of four programs that will allow them to express themselves creatively through song, dance, spoken word, drama and community service. New Orleans Kid Camera Project

The New Orleans Kid Camera Project was created to address the psychological and emotional impacts of Hurricane Katrina on children returning home to New Orleans.
Through the use of photography, creative writing and mixed media, children from flooded neighborhoods explore their environment and express themselves, their stories and feelings with their friends.

Kingsley House 2008 Youth Summer Programs
Summer programs for both children and teens run June 16 - August 8.
Children ages 5-12 Monday-Friday, 8 a.m. - 3 p.m. Before Care- 7:30 a.m. - 8 a.m. (FREE) After Care- 3 p.m. - 5 p.m. ($5/week per child)
Teens age 13-17 Monday-Friday, 5 p.m. - 8 p.m.
New Jazz School: Tuition Free Jazz Camp

New Jazz School will be for students from any school in the city in grades 7 - 12 who will be selected through an application and an audition.
The two-week program will be tuition-free.
Donald Harrison will direct and teach the program with assistance by experienced and well-recognized musicians. New Jazz School students will learn traditional jazz, swing, bebop, modal jazz, jazz rock and hip hop from these contemporary masters. There will also be classes in harmony, technique, reading, ear training, listening and ensemble. Fifty students in the seventh through 12th grade who know major scales and are able to play at least pieces of three songs will be selected for the program. Owning an instrument is preferred but not mandatory. The New Jazz School runs from June 9-20 from 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Mondays through Fridays. Project Prodigy Music Camp

Project Prodigy is a four-week long summer music camp for kids age 10-14 put together by the Young Leadership Council.
