Road Home Assistance At The Community Center of St. Bernard Every Tuesday and Thursday

Road Home representatives will be available at the Community Center of St. Bernard on Tuesday and Thursday from 10AM until 4PM to assist homeowners with application concerns.

FEMA Funds Relocation Of Displaced Residents

Applicants displaced from their primary residence in a disaster-declared area as a result of Katrina are eligible for up to $4,000 in relocation expenses incurred between August 29, 2005 and August 31, 2008. The deadline is August 31, 2008.
Visit the FEMA website for a full list of eligibility requirements or call 1-800-621-FEMA (3362). To prevent duplication of benefits, an applicant is only eligible to receive relocation assistance under either Hurricane Katrina (DR-1603-LA) or Hurricane Rita (DR-1607-LA), not both. more
Qatar Treme Renewal Project

The Treme Community Revival Project is a project funded in total by the People of Qatar for victims of Katrina who resided prior to Katrina in the Treme Community (specifically, within the neighborhood bounded by Rampart Street, Esplanade Avenue, Broad Street, and Orleans Avenue).
A limited number of eligible houses in the project area will be selected for repairs sufficient to stabilize the building for safe and legal occupancy. The project is limited to moderate to low income owners of owner-occupied singles and doubles in the Treme neighborhood who were displaced as a result of Hurricane Katrina, and who do not have sufficient insurance proceeds or financial means to bring their Treme home to a state of repair capable of achieving an occupancy certificate.

Louisiana Citizens Insurance Tax Credit

Residential and commercial property insurance policyholders will receive an income tax credit for the Louisiana Citizens Property Insurance Corporation regular and special assessments they paid because of Hurricanes Katrina and Rita.

ACORN Housing has a national mortage default counseling program Home Equity Loss Prevention Program (HELP) which assists homeowners struggling to bring their loans current.
ACORN counselors have relationships with 28 major lenders in the U.S. working to homeowners get their loans out of foreclosure. Services include assistance with budget and credit issues, repayment plans, forbearance plans, loan modifications, refinances, and partial claims.

ACORN Predatory Lending Assistance

ACORN won a class action litigation settlement relating to the mortgage lending practices of Household Finance Corporation and Beneficial Corporation which created provisions for a Foreclosure Assistance Program (FAP).
Under this program, borrowers who are behind on their loans because they cannot afford the payments could be eligible to have their interest rates reduced enough for their loans to become affordable again.
If you have suffered a verifiable loss of income or a verifiable increase in expenses since the time you took out your loan (such as loss of employment, temporary or permanent disability, reduction in monthly pay, increase in mortgage interest rate, child care, taxes or medical expenses), you may be eligible for hardship relief.
