Project Fleur-de-lis a program of Mercy Family Center, is a school-based mental health program, designed to provide long-term care and recovery for children and their families in the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina.
Through a partnership with schools, local health and human service agencies and national experts, the mission of Project Fleur-de-lis is to empower students, teachers and parents of New Orleans area schools to recover, renew and restore in order to inspire healing throughout our community. Emergency Psychiatric Evaluations
The Orleans Parish coroner's office has a psychiatrist to process requests for orders of protective custody.
These orders allow emergency psychiatric evaluations for people suffering from mental illness or substance abuse. Concerned family members or caretakers may call Dr. Jeffrey Rouse at (504) 658-9660.

Project Last, a program offered by the Children's Bureau, offers specialized Grief and Trauma Group and Individual Counseling to school aged children affected by trauma, loss, or disaster.
Project Last has been shown to be very effective in reducing symptoms in children who are in crisis due to trauma and community violence. The program is available to Orleans and Jefferson Parish children ages infant to 17 and their families who are survivors of traumatic events, witnesses to acts of extreme violence, or victims of violence. Individuals in need of crisis counseling can call Louisiana Spirit toll-free at 1-800-273-8255.
Callers can expect to speak with counselors who will then make appropriate referrals for counseling and other services.

Access to Care

The Red Cross's Access to Care program covers emotional support services such as medications, counseling (individual, group and family sessions), evaluation and testing for children under the age of 21, outpatient substance abuse treatment and ear acupuncture (for substance abuse treatment and relief of stress and anxiety).
The benefit covers services up to $2000 (increased from $1000) and is retroactive to August 30, 2005. To be eligible, you must have lived in the recovery region prior to Hurricanes Katrina and Rita.
